Living Landscapes
Over 18 months, beginning in March 2025, the Denmark Environment Centre will facilitate a series of community events including bushwalking, kayaking, and surfing. These events are designed to connect people, foster confidence in outdoor recreation, and encourage active engagement with our local environment. By bringing together environmental educators and skilled recreation guides, we aim to promote environmentally and culturally respectful experiences in nature. Through shared experiences and a passion for the outdoors, we hope to inspire a new generation of environmental stewards within our region.
Kaartdijiny Boodja
A community education project led by the Denmark Environment Centre, offering immersive cultural and environmental experiences on Noongar Boodja. Through guided walks, storytelling, creative workshops, and hands-on activities, the events invited participants to slow down, listen deeply, and in engage with the natural world in respectful and meaningful ways. By connecting people with local Elders, environmental educators, and artists, the project fostered cultural understanding, environmental awareness, and inspired active care for Country.
Six Seasons
Between 2021 and 2024 the Denmark Environment Centre undertook a number of field trips for each of the six Aboriginal seasons to locations around Denmark, Western Australia.
They produced six short films and podcasts that documented the environmental and cultural significance of various locations in our region with Noongar speakers, scientists, and other local experts, who have studied the lore of the land from a range of perspectives.
Mt Hallowell
Bio Blitz
The Mount Hallowell Bio blitz comprised of many events including a school excursion to Monkey Rock, 3 school incursions at Denmark Primary School, a keynote address from Prof Stephen Hopper and Larry Blight + the Bio blitz itself.
On the 28th of October 2023, 70 participants gathered to be involved in the inaugural Mount Hallowell BioBlitz coordinated by volunteers from the Friends of Mount Hallowell + the Denmark Environment Centre.
